The goal of this workshop is to go deeper in unison, together, but without expectation. There is no pressure to achieve or perform on the day, simply show up and join the fun of back bending - you will leave with a full heart, new awareness of backbends and drills / homework you can apply forever in your backbend practice. As always with yoga, there is no rush, this is a lifelong practice and together we will do the impossible, on and off the mat!... when the time is right.

I've fallen in love with backbends (and I wasn't always flexible!) - through devotion, drills and dedication I've evolved my backbend practice one flow at a time. Now, I'm reaching new heights, unlocking advanced asanas that once seem impossible... and you can too!
Together we will explore the beauty of the spine, backbends, their deeper meaning and how to unlock them with love and zero fear. You are only as young as your spine!
🧚🏽 What to Expect?
An in depth two hour workshop - we'll outline the mechanics of safe, successful backbends, anatomy of the spine, weaving in the philosophies of ancient yogic practices that will allow us to open our hearts and get deeper into our asanas.
The structure of the workshop:
- Centring & meditation - the goal of this workshop is to go deeper in unison, together, but without expectation. There is no pressure, no
- Warm up with a backbend, heart opening specific sequence
- Flow through sun salutations (again with a backbend strengthening theme)
- Dive into a backbend flow with:
- Drills, tips and tools to take away and apply at home
- Cool down with essential deep asana to close out class
- Shavasana & theme closing
- Goodbyes & homework!
What Shapes will we work on?
The beautiful thing about backbends? The fundamentals apply to multiple advanced asanas - flipping your grip, drop backs, transitions that all require similar strength and flexibility. Shapes we will work on:
Wheel Pose (Chakrasana) + dropping back (this seems scary but it really isn't when you know how!
Flipped Grip King Pigeon - Eka Pada Rajakapotasana
Flipped Grip Dancer - Natarajasana
Approaching Chin & Chest Stand - Ganda Bherundasana
(plus Kind Cobra, Camel pose, bow pose depending on energy levels / abilities and time)

- Strap (this can be a towel, dog lead, long sleeve t-shirt)
- 2 blocks (no worries if you don't have these, large books will work well!)
